Heartland Sports Promotions [HSP] is a volunteer based 501(c)4, not-for-profit corporation with a mission to make the Kansas City region a better place to live, work, and ride through:

promoting events appealing to all levels of skill and experience

SUPPORTING forums on outdoor safety and education

volunteering time for trail-development and maintenance

investing in the growth of KC's active community and culture

donating a % of our net income to charities and organizations with similar values

A huge thank you to the racers, spectators, sponsors and volunteers over the years-- we hope you've had as much fun as we have. Since 2000, HSP has earned a reputation for some of the best events in the Midwest and we will continue that tradition in the upcoming season with the following four premiere race events:

The Dirty Kanza 200, a 200 mile gravel road grinder through the Flint Hills around Emporia, KS, May 30th

The Kansas City Triathlon, the only Olympic Distance Triathlon in the KC region at Long View Lake, May 31st

The 9th Annual Rapture In Misery, 6 and 12 hour mtn bike endurance race at Crowder State Park, Aug. 15th

The 6th Annual Kansas City Cup XC Race & Festival, at Swope Park. Sept. 19-20th

As we celebrate our 10th season, 2009 will be a transition year for HSP. In addition to the four race events, we will be pouring our energy into building a brand new singletrack trail system and re-vamping the Dirt Lovin Good Times Tour.

The 2009 edition of Dirt Lovin' Good Times Tour, will consist of non-competitive rides to highlight the regional trails that we all love to ride. The rides will focus on skill building and will enable the riders to get comfortable with trail routes led by locals with intimate trail knowledge. There will be different routes and mileages, and all skill levels are welcome. Additionally, they will be a good excuse to hang out with your buddies, meet new people, ride, and enjoy telling post-ride stories and tall tales. Announcements of when and where will be posted on our website.

Our race promoters are not only mountain bike racers and riders, but trail builders and/or trail stewards. As individuals we spent 9 years designing and building trails at Landahl Park Reserve, 11 years designing and building trails at Perry Lake State Park, and 13 years helping maintain trails at Crowder State Park. Many individuals have put in time swinging a shovel to have great dirt to ride. And now we have the opportunity to build the next premiere mountain bike venue in the Midwest. In the coming years, we will be devoting a large part of our time to the creation of brand new singletrack at Swope Park in Kansas City, MO. You can check it out at http://www.swopetrails.com/.

There also has been some exciting news on the traditional cross country racing scene this past week with the announcement of the 2009 Midwest Fat Tire Series calendar. The Missouri Mountain Bike Series (St. Louis Area) has joined forces with the Midwest Fat Tire Series. We encourage all our racers to check out these events. In addition, check out the Psycowpath Series (Nebraska Mountain Bike Series) racing scene. Both of these promotion groups have been huge supporters of HSP over the years and we encourage you all to check out their races.
